I agree, default installation is now Python 2.3 (Debian Sarge) or 2.4 (Ubuntu 
Dapper). On next OS, Python 2.5 will be installed as default (eg. Debian 
Etch).

So Python 2.1 support is not important. On my mind, support Python 2.3 is 
enough.
